Are you planning your holiday in Rome Italy, and wondering what type of transport to book or get information about?
Let me explain you why you should choose one or the other options and give you all the links to help you organise your perfect holiday in Rome.
Taxi
Taxi might be the first thought that might cross your mind. It's a good solution if you plan to travel far from your accommodation for dinner and especially if you arrive from the airport with a crazy amount of luggage. Taxi is safe night transportation in Rome and the drivers know the best way to get you to your destination while avoiding traffic as much as possible. In every main square or around the Tiber river there is always a line of taxis available. In case you need to call one, this is the local number to contact +39060609 - more information and options for booking a Taxi at this LINK
Metro/Train
Incredibly useful for exploring different areas of Rome, especially if you don't have much time or days available: you may want to squeeze in as much as possible by using the fastest transport in Rome, the metro. I would also suggest taking the Ostia Lido train (available at many B line metro stops or at Piramide station) and have lunch on the beach. In 30 minutes the Ostia Lido train will take you to the seaside or to Rome, called Ostia, with many fantastic fish restaurants such as La Bussola. (the last stop on the line) This is the map of the Metro (subway) and this is the official Italian website plus this is a link to the English version.
Tram
Lovely and very quaint, perfect for a quick walk around the city the old fashioned way.
Bus
A good way to get around Rome, also one of the cheapest, but traffic in Rome could sometimes be extremely heavy and service could often be reduced.I am referring to the red buses of roman public transport and not the tourists ones.
Uber
Growing in Italy. In Rome it seems that the UBER drivers are finding a sort of peace and coexistence with taxi companies. Useful if you prefer not to have too much cash on you for a night out.
Bike
Rental bikes are available but unless you are familiar with Italian drivers, I strongly recommend not using a bike. Roman motorists are not slow... and too many accidents happen in Rome every day.
Walk
My favorite option in Rome - If you have a well-planned vacation and have enough time to do it, I highly recommend walking around as much as possible. Rome needs to be seen in all its beauty. Walking the ancient streets is part of the trip - don't skip it if you can. Also book accommodation in a strategic location so it will be easier to get everywhere on foot.
At "The Heart of Trastevere" you are literally a 15 to 30 minute walk maximum from all the main beauties of Rome. Link here
